INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES COMMITTEE1. The International Strategies Committee reports, through the Planning and Budget Committee, to the Academic Council/Vice-Chancellor, as appropriate. 2. The role of the committee is to focus on the University community’s commitment to the increasing internationalisation of its research, teaching and learning, and community service activities, through— (a) the development of appropriate strategies to further the Mission and Strategic Plan of the University in this area and, in particular, to achieve priorities in the Operational Priorities Plan; (b) the co-ordination and integration of the work of key bodies in relation to internationalisation; and (c) the monitoring and evaluation of outcomes. 3.(1) The committee comprises: (a) the Dean (International Relations) as Chair; (b) the Chair of the Academic Board or nominee; (c) the Director of the International Centre; (d) the Director of Student Services; (e) two deans of faculties nominated by the deans of the faculties; (f) the President of the Guild of Undergraduates or nominee; (g) up to five co-opted members if required to provide balance, specific expertise or desirable linkages between committees. (2) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is a standing invitee to meetings of the committee. (3) Members nominated under (1)(e) have a two-year term of office, but may be reappointed. (4) Co-opted members appointed in terms of (1)(g) are appointed for one year, but may be reappointed. (5) The Director of the International Centre is the Executive Officer of the committee. 4. The committee meets four times per year. 5. The committee may establish working parties to address selected issues. 6.(1) The committee has a standing sub-committee known as the International Strategies Sub-Committee on International Agreements which comprises the Director of the International Centre and the Chair of the Academic Board with power to co-opt other members if required. (2) The role of the sub-committee is to recommend directly to Council on transnational proposals, and under delegated authority from Academic Council (R121/03), to approve student exchange agreements, articulation and associated advanced standing arrangements and in-country programmes. |
